Jacob Osanya died in the crash that occurred at the intersection of Glenview and Pearl streets after 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, Upton Police said in release.
Initial investigation suggested another 18-year-old was driving a 2019 Acura Sedan north on Glenview Street when he veered off the road, struck a tree and overturned, according to police.
The driver along with three other passengers were able to free themselves from the vehicle and were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Osanya, however, was the only one trapped inside, police said. He was also taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
"Jacob was a person of many things. He was a person full of life. He cared about his family and friends and prioritized them in his life," a GoFundMe organized in his honor reads. "This incident will leave a scar in our community but especially in our hearts. Jacob will never be forgotten and will always resonate with us."
Osanya's family has decided to host his funeral in Kenya where he was born. The purpose of the GoFundMe is help cover the cost of those expenses.
The campaign had raised more than $15,800 of its $50,000 goal as of Monday. People can donate by clicking here.
Meanwhile, the crash remains under investigation.
